On the cover of the magazine Entertainment Weekly we see the remaining Stark children come together for a reunion photo before the season premiere of the hit HBO show Game of Thrones which will show on July 16.
In one photo, Arya Stark (Maisie Williams) is seen wearing a dagger and not her trusted sword Needle. The issue with the dagger is that it was never supposed to be in her possession. At the end of last season, it was in the possession of Petyre Baelish AKA Littlefinger portrayed masterfully by Aiden Gillen. Fans are saying that Littlefinger will die in season 7 of Game of Thrones. We thought we would break down the not-so-subtle differences in the two weapons.
Needle: Belonging to Arya Stark, her weapon of choice is just the right size for her. She was once even quoted as saying, “Sansa can keep her sewing needles, I’ve got a needle of my own.”
When Jon Snow gifts her Needle he tells her it is skinny like her and the most important thing to know when using it is, “stick them with the pointy end.”
In the fourth season of Game of Thrones Arya Stark uses Needle to kill a man named Polliver by stabbing him through the neck.
Arya uses Needle to kill the Waif then to “convince” Jaqen H’ghar to let her leave with it to Winterfell.
Valerian Steel Dagger: This plain blade is made from the powerful steel valerian. It belongs to Petyr Baelish. It was once used by a catspaw in an assassination attempt against Bran Stark. Arya Stark adorns this dagger in the magazine Entertainment Weekly. Fans are asking if this is a spoiler. If this means that Arya Stark will somehow take it from Petyre Baelish.
Both blades are finely made and can hold up in a fight.
While we will all have to tune in to find the truth, we do know that in the GOT world that a blade is a blade and anyone can die if they get stuck with the pointy end − especially when trying to get on the Iron Throne.
